Modern luxury in a Victorian-style
Whistlewood was built circa 1875, initially influenced by Victorian and Dutch architecture and owned by wealthy prince merchants of the period. Walmer, a then upmarket rural garden village with its wide leafy tree lanes and own railway line attracted many, and its popularity has not waned.
Much has changed over the years, as Walmer is both a bustling business and residential area. Its leafy and central position makes it an attractive place to reside.
Whistlewood, an old home with high Ceilings, Stained Glass Windows, and doubled-backed fireplaces has now been lovingly restored to offer a unique modern accommodation entwined with historic charm to offer its guests a memorable stay.
The house has been updated with Solar Power to avoid power disruption to our guests and visitors. Back-up water tanks have been installed as we navigate a severe drought and water restrictions in the Eastern Cape.
Your host, Jane, comes from a background of 33 years in the tourism and customer service industries and will be on hand to assist in any possible manner to provide a seamless and memorable stay.

Centrally positioned on the Corner of 6th and Water Road Whistlewood Guest House provides guests access to Port Elizabeth Airport, St Georges Hospital, or Grey High school within 10 minutes. You are never too far to make the most of your day.
A choice of 6 restaurants is within a 1 to 10-minute walk from our front door to match all tastes and budgets. If you prefer to prepare your own meals, a large fully equipped kitchen is available to guests. A quiet Lounge, Patio, and Pool area with Braai facilities are also available.
Please note, that secure parking for the guests staying on the property is available.
Accommodation
We have 3 non-smoking rooms available for hire via the Airbnb or Bookings.Com portals, or directly with the host Jane Du Toit. In the case of direct bookings, payment must be made via eft and cleared before planned arrival dates.
All rooms have the following:
- A queen extra length sized bed from the hospitality platinum range to ensure a good night’s sleep.
- large workstations with the appropriate USB plugs.
- Unlimited fast WiFi.
- Smart TV for those who wish just want to relax.
- Hair dryer.
- Allergy-free linen, towels, and additional blanket for colder nights.
